IChF supports the call to preserve the bottom-up nature of the MSCA Programme

The Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences (IChF), joins European research institutions in supporting the appeal to preserve the bottom-up nature of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA).

In response to the European Commission’s proposal to steer MSCA funding for 2026–2027 toward politically prioritized themes, a joint statement has been issued by key scientific networks. It warns that such thematic narrowing risks undermining the success and openness that have defined MSCA.

The signatories stress that the programme’s excellence lies in its openness to all disciplines and researcher-led initiatives. MSCA is already contributing to strategic EU priorities—including AI, quantum technologies, and the EU Missions—without the need for predefined topic constraints. The statement also calls for increased funding under the next Framework Programme (FP10), to match rising demand and address structural challenges faced by early-career researchers.

The joint appeal is endorsed by leading organizations including YERUN, Coimbra Group, EU-LIFE, ALLEA, The Guild, LERU, EUA, Eurodoc, and many others. The Polish Science Contact Agency (PolSCA) is also among the signatories.
