Project description

Project title, type and project number

National Science Centre, Poland, OPUS 25 Project No. 2023/49/B/ST11/01771 entitled “Hit and grow: An approach to synthesize core-shell nanomaterials for sensing, electrosynthesis and electrocatalysis”, 16/2024

Project leader

Dr hab. Piyush Sindhu Sharma, prof. IChF

Description

Nanoparticles with functionally tuned shell surfaces can be of particular interest in various applications, such as electrosynthesis, electrocatalysis, and sensing. The proposed project with in Opus 25 will implement an electrochemical impact method for core-shell nanoparticle synthesis. Several functional and self-assembling monomers are planned to be synthesized for that purpose. The structural formula of these synthesized monomers will be based on its application in electrocatalysis and molecular recognition. Additionally, self-assembling monomers are planned to be synthesized. The project will also broaden fundamental knowledge of polymer science technology, nano-impact electrochemistry, and analytical chemistry. The proposed project will employ different technologies to propose a measurement system for environmental pollution due to antibiotics.

The proposed fundamental research will also involve knowledge of mimicking natural molecular recognition in artificial analytical systems by target analyte molecular imprinting. The current project proposal is also focused on the realization of a novel method of preparing nanoparticles and applying them to perform a label-free detection and determination of antibiotics with high sensitivity (up to ng/L).
