Platform, i.e. detection / identification of microorganisms, especially bacteria, and spectroelectrochemical measurements using the surface enhanced Raman technique (SERS), how it is prepared, its use and measurements using such a platform

  • Summary:

The subject of beverages is the test platform, i.e. detection / identification of microorganisms, especially bacteria, and spectroelectrochemical measurements using the surface enhanced Raman technique (SERS), how it is prepared, its use and measurements using such a platform.

The platform is based on a photovoltaic cell covered with a metallic layer. Photovoltaic cells induced by silicon covered with a thin layer of silicon nitride (anti-reflective layer). On the surface of silicon nitride there are electrical contacts (upper electrode) Made of high-conductive metal (eg silver), which can serve as a place for applying electrical potential during the time of spectroelectrochemical measurements. The developed platform is characterized by a high SERS amplification factor (108). High repeatability (RSD <5%) and stability of recorded signals for both tested chemicals and microorganisms.

  • Advantages / Innovative aspects:

Development of a new class of SERS-active substrates, which:

    • allow to obtain high Raman signal gain coefficients,
    • will be universal, i.e. they will enable the measurement of both biological (eg bacteria) and non-biological samples,
    • will allow direct deposition of bacteria from liquids, i.e. plasma, urine or water, so that there is no need to transfer them from the liquid to the SERS substrate,
    • will be able to apply in spectroelectrochemical measurments
