Method of synthesis of brominated carbon nanotubes

  • Summary:

The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of the brominated carbon nanotubes obtained from functionalized, in particular carboxylated, carbon nanotubes. According to this invention, the thermal synthesis of bromine, added in stoichiometric excess in a liquid form, with the functionalized carbon nanotubes containing functional groups with carbon atoms with sp2 or sp hybridization. After completion of this reaction the unreacted bromine is removed from the synthesized product. After complete removal of the unreacted bromine, the product is dried and triturated to give the final product of the brominated carbon nanotubes.
