Offer no. 35/13
Method for surface modification with nanocomposites, nanocomposite material and the use thereof
- Summary:
The invention relates to a method for surface modification with nanocomposites containing metallic nanoparticles. The method is fast, effective and versatile. Nanocomposite may be deposited on both hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces. It means that different materials can be modified (i.e. glass, cotton, wood, natural and synthetic polymers, hydrogels). Modified materials displays strong antibacterial activity towards both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria strains. Toxicity tests showed that in spite of its antiseptic properties the nanocomposite is harmless for mammalian cells. Finally, the method of surface modification we described uses mild, environmentally friendly fabrication conditions. Thus, it offers a facile approach for obtaining durable non-toxic antiseptic coatings for biomedical applications, but may also be used in other sectors: food, cosmetics and/or textile industry.
