Project description

Project title, type and project number

Activation of Dinitrogen by Multinuclear Iron and Vanadium Complexes Supported by Linked Sterically Demanding N,N’-subunits, OPUS 23, UMO-2022/45/B/ST4/03863, 26/2024

Project leader

Prof. dr hab. inż. Janusz Lewiński

Description

Main objective of the project is directed to advancing the fundamental knowledge of the activation of dinitrogen by properly designed multinuclear iron and vanadium complexes. Accordingly, the project aims to design, synthesise, and structure characterization of novel complexes supported by sterically encumbered ligands with N,N-binding sites of various angular dispositions of N-donor centres. Then, the resulting low-valent metal complexes will be utilised as model systems for the N2 activation and reduction. Specific objectives will include structure characterisation and reactivity studies of the obtained low-valent metal complexes towards N2 and elucidation of the intimate steps in the N2 activation via combined experimental and theoretical studies.
