Description

We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences. The position is part of the consortium project entitled “Benchmarking Human Tissue Culture Systems that Mimic the Tumor Microenvironment”, financed by the NCN (National Science Centre). The consortium provides an international and interdisciplinary research environment with close links to tissue engineering, 3D cancer model systems, microfluidics, single-cell sequencing, biotechnology, and bioinformatics. The project involves transcriptomic profiling of Head & Neck Squamous Cell Carcinomas (HNSCC) using in-house state-of-the-art microfluidic highthroughput single-cell sequencing methods. The consortium will analyze primary tumor tissues and in vitro model systems such as patient-derived organoids (PDO) and patient-derived explants (PDE).

About the group: The Computational Genomics Group at IPC PAS is led by dr Marcin Tabaka (co-PI in the OPUS project) and leverages experimental and computational approaches in high-throughput single-cell transcriptome

and epigenome profiling to address fundamental questions in biomedical research (https://tabaka-lab.org).

Key responsibilities include

• Design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments including high-throughput single-cell RNA-seq profiling;

• Assess quality controls of NGS data generated in the project;

• Cooperate with the partners at Medical University of Lublin (Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and University of Warsaw (Department of Biology);

• Participation in the research project and attendance at team meetings to share results;

• Prepare and write scientific papers for leading journals.

per month financed from the NCN OPUS 21 no. 2021/41/B/NZ7/03786, entitled “Benchmarking Human Tissue Culture Systems that Mimic the Tumor Microenvironment”   

 100% of the work time of Postdoc will be devoted to the realization of the proposed project. The offer is for    6 months with a possible extension.

The job in the exciting interdisciplinary project, realized in a collaboration with Prof. Matthias Nees, dr Adolfo Rivero-Muller from the Medical University of Lublin and dr Tomasz Kaminski from the University of Warsaw. Scientific profile of a candidate

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Biomedicine, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or related quantitative discipline obtained in the year of employment in the project or within 7 years before 1 January of the year of employment in the project. For researchers with multiple PhDs, the date of the first PhD award is deemed the reference date. Extension might apply according to National Science Centre, Poland, rules.
  • Additionally, the candidate for the postdoctoral position must meet the following condition:
  1. they did not have the principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation.
  2. their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree
  • Solid knowledge and familiarity with techniques in genomics. Hands-on experience in single-cell profiling methods is a strong plus;
  • Familiarity with Next Generation Sequencing;
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for analysis of genomics datasets;
  • Very good command of spoken and written English is required

  • Competence for specific tasks in a research project;
  • Previous scientific achievements (publication record);
  • References;
  • Candidate’s own initiative in research projects.

The successful candidate for the postdoctoral position shall, for the full term of their employment within the project, be obligated to maintain compliance with the following conditions:

  • their PhD degree has been awarded by another institution than the one planned to employ them at this post or they have completed a continuous and evidenced post-doctoral fellowship of at least 10 months in another institution than the host institution for the project and in another country than the one in which they have been conferred a PhD degree;
  • at the time of receiving remuneration, they will not be receiving any other remuneration paid from the funds granted to research projects under NCN calls under the heading of direct costs
  • they did not have the principal investigator as their research supervisor or auxiliary supervisor of their PhD dissertation;
  • in the period of receiving the remuneration they will be receiving no remuneration from another employer pursuant to an employment contract, including an employer with registered office outside of Poland.
