Graphene biosensing and biophysics, Sonata 15 no. 2019/35/D/ST5/00958, 49/2021
Project leader
Dr Izabela Kamińska
Description
With this project, we aim at establishing a novel platform for the new field of graphene biosensing and biophysics. There are two major players: 2D material (graphene or graphene/hBN heterostructure) and DNA origami. On one hand, we have high quality graphene with outstanding optoelectronic properties but chemically inert. On the other hand, we have DNA origami structures folded solely from single-stranded DNA which allows for introduction of almost any entity (for example a chemical group) with very high (nanometer) precision. There is a great interest in these materials due to their unique properties, however it is very challenging to prepare “single-molecule grade” mono- or multilayer of graphene and hBN, and to bring them together with DNA origami. We want to use these platforms for building ultrasensitive biosensors as well as for investigation of macromolecules which are of biological interest.
