Project description

Project title, type and project number

Fast molecular dynamics in plasmonic nanocavities, OPUS 20 Project No. 2020/39/B/ST4/01523, 24/2022

Project leader

Sylwester Gawinkowski, PhD

Description

The project’s primary goal is to develop the methodology of monitoring single entities’ vibrational spectra with time-resolved SERS spectroscopy and apply the technique to analyse intra- and inter-molecular dynamics. It will be realised by applying a novel detection scheme developed in our group for monitoring changes in the SERS spectra with ultra-high temporal resolution. The correlation of measured temporal evolution of SERS spectra with quantum-chemical simulations of polarizability tensors of molecules located in the specific plasmonic environment should uncover the dynamics of such a molecule. It will be applied for both the relatively long-term (the time scale of microseconds) and the ultrafast (femtosecond) molecular processes (e.g., relative translation and rotation of the molecule in the vicinity of nanoparticles and in the strong electric field; chemical reactions in the plasmonic environment; etc.). A profound understanding of the dynamical processes occurring in the plasmonic hotspot is an important for understanding nanoscale processes and for further development of new plasmonic and nanophotonic devices.
