Offer no. 28/12
Catalyst Ru/Pd/C, method of preparation of the catalyst Ru/Pd/C, its application in direct formic acid fuel cells and such a fuel cell.
- Summary:
The invention provides a Ru/Pd/C catalyst designed for electrooxidation of formic acid at the anode of a formic acid-powered fuel cell. This catalyst contains palladium and ruthenium supported on carbon, wherein the nominal atomic ratio of ruthenium to palladium ranges from 0.2 to 1.5. Ruthenium occurs in the metallic form in the Ru/Pd/C catalyst, and it does not form an alloy with palladium. The catalyst activates itself by spontaneous oscillations of the cell voltage, without the need for providing energy from the external system. The invention comprises a process for manufacturing the Ru/Pd/C catalyst, its application for electrooxidation of formic acid in the formic acid-powered fuel cells, as well as the formic acid-powered fuel cell using the inventive catalyst.
