Description

The International Center for Translational Eye Research (ICTER) is a multi-investigator center for eye research as related to imaging and biochemical techniques to support advances in understanding the etiology and treatment and human blinding diseases. Further information on the research priorities and current expertise of our Center can be found at http://www.icter.pl.

ICTER is looking for candidates with a PhD degree experienced in biology, chemistry or biotechnology. Candidates should be interested in translational research and the development of new therapies to cure blindness or other diseases.  The postdoctoral researcher will have a direct impact on lab development and its success in publishing in high impact factor journals. The person will be also responsible for performing dynamic research to create a competitive research group. The position will be assigned to Integrated Structural Biology led by Humberto Fernandes, focused on elucidate the mechanisms of vision, particularly proteins of the phototransduction pathway and the visual cycle, at an atomic and molecular level.

Key responsibilities include

  1. Planning and conducting scientific experiments and analyzing the results
  2.  Conducting research tasks, including: gene cloning, production, purification and characterization of proteins;
  3.  Participation in research projects and attendance at team meetings to share results and plan experiments
  4.  Prepare and keep documentation of experiments and results
  5.  Prepare and write scientific papers
  6.  Active participation in conferences and preparation of grant applications
  7.  Assisting PhD students

Requirements

  1. PhD diploma in biology, chemistry, biotechnology or similar field obtained not earlier than 1 January 2019
  2. Solid knowledge and familiarity with laboratory techniques in molecular biology, biophysics, and structural biology
  3. Familiarity with gene cloning, protein purification and determination enzyme activity
  4. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team, including bridging protein biology with physical optics
  5. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  6. Excellent communication and organizational skills
  7. Analytical and critical problem-solving skills mindset
  8. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written

Recruitment procedure

Successful candidates fulfilling the main eligibility criteria and qualifications will be invited for an interview, which will be scheduled between 20-24 July 2026. Competition results shall be announced by the end of July 2026.
