Key responsibilities include
The Institute of Physical Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, is seeking an experienced researcher in the field of quantum chemistry for the position of Associate Professor. The successful candidate will conduct research within the scope of Research Group 20, with a particular focus on the development of quantum chemistry methods for the description of excited states in organic systems, while actively securing competitive research funding and contributing to the training and supervision of early-career researchers and students. The appointed researcher will work closely with experienced members of the group and play an active role in mentoring the next generation of scientists.

Requirements
• A university degree in chemistry, together with a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in chemical sciences, in the discipline of chemistry;
• Required qualifications: (1) at least 7 years’ experience in quantum chemistry, particularly in the development of computational methods; (2) at least two years’ experience working at an institution other than the candidate’s doctoral-awarding body;
• Experience in leading a research project awarded through a competitive process, the completion date of which falls after the date of the call for applications or which was completed no more than one year prior to the date of the call for applications. This period may be extended by the duration of any long-term (over 90 days) documented sick leave or rehabilitation benefits due to incapacity for work. In addition, this period may be extended by the number of months spent on leave for the care and upbringing of children, granted in accordance with the provisions of the Labour Code, and in the case of women – for example, by 18 months for each child born or adopted, if this method of accounting for breaks in the research career is more favourable to the female candidate;
• Experience in the supervision of at least one PhD candidate.

When assessing the candidate's achievements the Competition Committee will take into account breaks in research work (e.g. maternity leave, internships in industry etc.) and will convert the indicated achievements of the candidate into effective years of research.
As part of the competition procedure, selected Candidates may be invited for an interview or be asked to publicly present the results of their previous work in the form of a seminar at the IPC PAS and / or additional explanations.
Candidates who have been issued a negative opinion by the Competition Committee or candidates not selected for employment have the right to appeal against the results of the evaluation. The appeal shall be lodged with the Director of the Institute within 7 days from the date of receipt of the appropriate information. The decision of the Director of the Institute shall be final.
