A flexible platform for a surface-enhanced Raman effect, a method for the preparation of such a platform, a method for the determination of substances and/or microorganisms using such a platform, the use of such a platform for the direct detection
- Summary:
A flexible platform for a surface-enhanced Raman effect, a method for the preparation of such a platform, a method for the determination of substances and/or microorganisms using such a platform, the use of such a platform for the direct detection and/or identification of substances and/or microorganisms, especially bacteria and cancer cells using technique based on surface enhanced Raman effect.
The subject of the invention is a flexible platform for a surface enhanced Raman effect, a method for preparing such a platform, a method for the determination of substances and/or microorganisms using such a platform, and further the use of such a platform for direct detection and /or identification of substances and/or microorganisms, especially bacteria, with use of the surface-enhanced Raman technique. The platform includes a PET covered with ITO layer, then subjected to a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD). The modified foil is covered with the metallic active layer (i.e., gold, silver), thanks to which it becomes a SERS platform with high enhancement factor. An additional advantage of the platform is its flexibility, which will allow easy mechanical processing (cutting, bending) and easy application of samples from surfaces with uneven shapes (fruits, vegetables, human body and others).

- Advantages / Innovative aspects:
- Detection and / or identification of bacteria and / or tumor cells using the surface enhanced Raman (SERS) technique on flexible platforms with a high amplification factor.
- The method uses a commercially available composite (PET film coated with a layer of electrically conductive indium tin oxide, ITO) which is subjected to a dielectric barrier discharge (BDB).
- The SERS platform is flexible, which allows it to be easily cut and bent, and because of its flexibility it offers increased versatility of sampling, e.g. swabs or microextraction.

- Field:
- Usage:
- Detection and identification of bacteria and / or tumor cells found in clinical specimens, e.g. blood, plasma, urine, cerebrospinal fluid.
- Detection and identification of bacteria and / or cancer cells on surfaces with high curvature (e.g. in the case of bacteria; the surface of fruits, vegetables), therefore transfer of bacteria and / or tumor cells to the platform requires direct contact of a platform with this surface.
- Detection and identification of bacteria in environmental samples, e.g. water.
