Offer no. 30/11

Method to disperse carbon nanotubes in hydrophilic ionic liquid

  • Summary:

The subject matter of the invention is a method to disperse carbon nanotubes in room temperature hydrophilic ionic liquid, with surfactants. We should obtain dispersed solution of single tubes or small bundles to fully exploit the properties of carbon nanotubes in ionic liquids. Unfortunately, carbon nanotubes spontaneously form aggregates as a result of the van der Waals interactions. The main reason for this behavior is their hydrophobic nature. To our knowledge, there was no further determination the optimum method of dispersing carbon nanotubes in hydrophilic ionic liquids.

  • Advantages / Innovative aspects:
    • no grinding carbon nanotubes. During this process carbon nanotubes are partially destroyed,
    • no use of the probe generates ultrasound. This equipment causes the decomposition of the ionic liquid.
  • Keywords:
