Project description

Project title, type and project number

SONATA 20 Project no 2024/55/D/ST5/02865 Entitled “Pure Blue-Emitting Perovskites: Structural Analysis and Optimization for LED Applications”

Project leader

Dr Samrat Das Adhikari

Description

Blue-emitting perovskites hold great promise for next generation light-emitting technologies, but they face significant challenges in achieving electroluminescence (EL) performance and high external quantum efficiency (EQE) comparable to their red and green counterparts. Addressing issues such as deep trap states, phase segregation, Joule heating, and broader emission spectra is critical to developing blue PeLEDs that meet the Rec. 2020 standards for high-color-purity displays, enabling their practical implementation and commercialization. Blue emitting perovskites based on 2D Ruddlesden–Popper (RP) perovskites are promising materials offering advantages such as facile and low-cost solution processability, and low formation threshold, which provides the material with high photoluminescence quantum yield (PL QY), PL emission band at pure blue range (~465 nm), narrow emission bandwidth, and strong exciton binding energy, which are potential for the next generation blue LED device technology. This project seeks to advance the field by offering innovative strategies for designing high performance optoelectronic devices, addressing critical challenges in material efficiency and durability.
