INSITUTE OF PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY PAS, Team 30 Nuclear Hyperpolarization of Molecular Systems and Nanomaterials
NATIONAL SCIENCE CENTRE
Project title, type and project number
OPUS 27 2024/53/B/ST4/02653 Unique Properties of Orthohydrogen as Revealed by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
Project leader
Dr Tomasz Ratajczyk
Description
The project focuses on investigating methods of hyperpolarization using parahydrogen, as well as understanding the properties of the hydrogen molecule and their manifestations in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra. The research work will include an analysis of the nature of the conversion of parahydrogen to orthohydrogen, during which an orthohydrogen molecule with an unusual spin order is formed. This phenomenon is revealed in NMR spectra as a partially negative line. These studies will enable a deeper understanding of the role of parahydrogen in nuclear hyperpolarization, and in particular, the determination of the correlation between hyperpolarization and ortho–para hydrogen conversion. This, in turn, may lead to the application of the PNL effect in studies of chemical processes and phenomena involving interactions of molecules with catalytic centers.
