The spectrometer has considerable control and measurement automation. It is equipped with a hemispherical analyser with a 5-channel detector and an X-ray source without a monochromator. As part of the modernisation, the system was equipped with a preparation chamber with gas lines and a new sample transmission system with sample carriers produced by PREVAC. XPS technique is useful in determination of chemical composition of the surface of solid materials with resolution of a few or several nm.
