Description

The aim of the project is the developing of biologically relevant bichromophores complexes with, from one side, the ability of enhanced singlet oxygen formation and, from other side, the ability of tight control of singlet oxygen concentration by depletion (e.g. consumption of singlet oxygen during endoperoxides formation) in organic solvents and in water/micelles solutions.

Key responsibilities include

  • Carrying out electronic absorption, fluorescence, phosphorescence and stationary Raman experiments. Samples preparation. Scientific initiative and contribution through regular reporting, participation in international conferences;
  • Contribution to the efficient functioning of the lab.

We offer

We offer 1500 PLN per month stipend financed from the NCN OPUS 20 Project No. 2020/39/B/ST4/01956. The stipend is for 12 months with a possible extension up to 48 months.

A scholarship agreement will be signed with successful applicants on condition that the Institute of Physical Chemistry signs the grant agreement with NSC.

Possibility of publication of research papers in recognized international journals. Possibility of preparing an M. Sc. thesis.

Career development prospects at IPC PAS

The successful candidate will be part of an experienced, multi-disciplinary team and will have an opportunity to gain comprehensive knowledge in chemistry and physics, especially in spectroscopy of organic compounds.

There is a possibility to take advantage of all programs in the IPC PAS, including Young Scientists of IPC PAS competition and Mobility of Young Scientists of IPC PAS competition. The Institute provides an opportunity to participate in ERASMUS+ program.

Requirements

Student of physics or chemistry. Basic knowledge of physical chemistry, especially electronic and vibrational spectroscopy. Knowledge of English language.

Key assessment criteria

The recruitment committee shall evaluate the candidates’ research achievements, their research-related achievements and competencies as regards specific tasks in the research project, expressed as a point score:

  • the candidate’s research achievements, including publications in prestigious academic press /journals (50% of the final score):

4 points – outstanding;

3 points – very good;

2 points – good;

1 point – poor;

0 points – no scientific achievements.

  • research-related achievements, scholarships, awards and research experience gained in Poland or abroad, research workshops and training courses, participation in research projects (20% of the final score):

4 points – outstanding (e.g. scholarships, fellowships at leading foreign research centres, prestigious international prizes or awards, workshops or training courses at the leading research centres, participation in international or foreign projects);

3 points – significant (scholarships, fellowships at good Polish and foreign research centres, national prizes or awards, domestic or foreign workshops or training courses, participation in Polish or foreign projects);

2 points – moderate (local prizes or awards, workshops or training courses, participation in university projects);

1 point – poor achievements;

0 points – no achievements.

  • the candidate’s competence to carry out specific tasks in the research project (30% of the final score):

3 points – very good;

2 points – good;

1 point – poor;

0 points – no competence.

  • Recommendation letter(s). At least one opinion of the candidate from a specialist in a relevant field of science.
