Centre of Excellence TALES
Laboratory of Thermodynamics for the Environmental Protection

The Centre has been created under the FP5 of the EU. Its main goals include promotion and development of thermodynamics for the environmental protection, education of young scientists and international scientific cooperation. CoE Tales organizes conferences, seminars and summer schools as well as participates in international fairs and brokerage events. The project includes the employees of several departments of the IPCh: thermodynamics, physical chemistry of supramolecular complexes, calorimetry and Thermodynamic Data Centre.

Centre of Excellence CPM
Centre for Photoactive Materials

Studies and synthesis of substances that change their properties upon influence of light. Design and construction of spectral equipment.

Centre of Excellence "SURPHARE"
Surface Phenomena and Reactions

CoE SURPHARE is funded by the European Community under the Fifth Framework "Competitive and Sustainable Growth" Programme. Its duration is 36 months. The aim of this project is to develop a scientific co-operation with other surface science laboratories in Europe, to exchange information on the recent advances in the field of surface science, to intensify personal contacts, and to increase the education level and research experience of young scientists engaged in surface science. These objectives are realised by organising international conferences and workshops, and by exchange of scientists. In the first year of the project duration, five international meetings have been organised on subjects of corrosion and hydrogen degradation, on reactivity of meta-stable materials, morphology of soft matter, surface modification for chemical sensing, and on standardisation of surface science techniques.
