International Ph.D. in Chemistry Studies
at the Institute of Physical Chemistry
of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, Poland

Graduates of Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, and related university faculties, holding a Master of Science or equivalent degree, both experimentalists and theoreticians of outstanding aptitudes and strong motivation for research work, are invited to join the International Ph.D. in Chemistry Studies.

The admittance to the Studies is conditional on the result of the qualification interview. Last year M.Sc. students are also invited for the interview.

We propose interesting fundamental research topics combining physics and chemistry, including:

  • nanotechnology and physical chemistry of new materials;
  • photochemistry, photophysics and molecular spectroscopy;
  • physical chemistry of surfaces and interfaces, of solids, of soft matter, and of supramolecular complexes;
  • molecular and supramolecular physical chemistry;
  • chemical kinetics and catalysis;
  • thermodynamics and statistical mechanics;
  • quantum chemistry, mathematical modeling of phenomena, and molecular dynamics;
  • electrochemistry, including electrode processes, design of electrochemical bio- and chemosensors, and electrochemistry of materials;
  • astrochemistry.

  • Currently available Ph.D. student positions

Program of the International Ph.D. Studies

We offer:

  • high quality research opportunities
  • up-to-date research apparatus and computational facilities in recently renovated and modernized research laboratories, in particular specialized laboratories;
  • scientific collaboration with renowned research centers in Poland, and in the EU states, USA and Japan;
  • scientific and research training in Poland and abroad as part of the International Ph.D. Studies;
  • reasonably light teaching duties;
  • frequent contacts with research supervisors;
  • friendly and encouraging atmosphere.

The Studies last four years. Program of the International Ph.D. Studies is prepared individually for each Ph.D. student on the basis of the Regulations of the International Ph.D. Studies. Monthly remuneration of a Ph.D. student depends on the progress of research work. Nonresident students are entitled to accommodation allowance. The Institute offers rooms in its own student hostel at reasonable prices. The best graduates from the International Ph.D. Studies are referred to postdoctoral positions abroad and after their return they are given priority of employment in the Institute.

Depending on the education profile of the candidate, the qualification interview covers fundamentals of chemistry or physics in the scope of appropriate courses at higher education institutions and test in the English language consisting in the translation of a simple English text relating to chemistry or physics into the Polish language. Qualification interviews are held once a quarter - the nearest interview on 25 June 2010, at 9 a.m. Candidates interested in the interview are requested to contact the Secretariat of the Institute earlier, from Monday to Friday 8.00-15.00.
